These clothes had protective and representative tasks (they spoke of the social status of the owner).Very long garments with long and loose sleeves were mainly used by members of higher social classes. In this group of garments we can find plenty of forms. Among outer garments we can find: a surcote (the 13th and the 14th centuries ), a cotehardie , a houppelande, a robe, a coat and other forms of the above, which are difficult to classify.
