This type of representation of the saints was used to decorate private chapels or a prayer-desk.
The picture based on "Madonna with Child" located in Munich and probably made by Jean Malouel around 1410.
The picture is made on an oak plank, seasoned and with linen canvas glued to it. Whole plank has been covered with glue-gypsum plaster on which the picture was drawn for the further gilding. The gilding was made with metal particles that are an imitation of gold and give half-mat effect. Egg tempera was used for the painting process and produced with using the original medieval method. It was drawn onto the plank with thin strokes. The painting layer was first protected with egg white varnish. A glaze was put on the gilding.

Cut of this garment is modeled on the pourpoint of Charles de Blois, who died in 1364. A characteristic features of this gambeson are very deep cuts on the sleeves and cut off at the waist.
